Dental Care
Why Dental Care is Important
As per the statistics, dental disease is the most common illness veterinarians encounter. The fact is that almost 70% to 85% of pets over the age of 2 suffer from some form of dental disease.
Neglecting your pet's dental hygiene can cause severe health issues for them. If left untreated, it can lead to bacterial infection, posing a threat to your pet's heart, liver, and kidneys. These threats can be tough to identify, so we suggest bringing your pet in for a routine check-up.
To ensure that your pet's oral health is in check, you can look out for some signs of dental disease, such as:
- Discolored teeth
- Red or inflamed gums
- Bad breath
- Loose teeth
- Swollen mouth, jaws, or gums
- Pain when eating
- Not showing interest in playing with chew toys
Regular check-ups and dental cleanings can help prevent these problems from escalating, ensuring your pet leads a healthy and happy life!
Teeth Cleaning
Visiting the dentist is a routine part of our lives, but it's a whole different experience for our furry friends.
Pets require general anesthesia for teeth cleaning, making the process more involved, time-consuming, and complex. As a result, your pet may need to spend a day at our hospital.
The first step is a thorough physical examination to ensure your pet is healthy. Once we've confirmed their well-being, we administer anesthesia to keep your pet safe and comfortable throughout the procedure.
Once your pet is comfortably asleep, we start the teeth cleaning process by using a hand scaler to remove any tartar buildup. Next, we use an ultrasonic scaler and curette to clean above and below the gum line, smoothing out any rough spots.
Finally, we polish their teeth, clean their gums, and wash with an antibacterial solution to reduce the likelihood of future tartar buildup.
We understand that pet owners want the best for their furry companions, which is why we take great care in providing safe and effective dental care for our patients. Trust us to help keep your pet's teeth and gums healthy for years to come.
